, 2012. >>> good morning. good to be with you. i'm terrell brown. today president obama wraps up a two day west coast fundraising trip his last one out west of the campaign. in virginia today mitt romney delivers what aides are calling a major foreign policy address. paying particular attention to issues in the middle east. we go to washington for more. >> reporter: good morning. that's right. mitt romney will continue -- contrast his foreign policy vision with that of president obama's today. now this is amid questions about the u.s. embassy attack in libya last month. meantime president obama is reaching out to hollywood for support. president obama is raising more cash in california today. last night at a star studded los angeles fundraiser the president joked about his lackluster debate performance following songs from katie perry and stevie wonder. >> they perform flawlessly night after night. i can't always say the same. >> reporter: the president also accused his opponent mitt romney of backing away from campaign promises. >> obviously the governor knows his $5 trillion tax cut

news" good morning. good to be withyou. i'm terrell brown. today both president obama and mitt romney return to the campaign trail following last night's debate in denver. as expected the economy dominated their first one on one showdown. romney came out swinging as the candidates argued tax policy, budget deficit and health care and looks like the aggressive approach may have paid off for the republican challenger. cbs news poll shows romney made strides of uncommitted voters that he needs to win over in order to take over the white house. we go to denver first. >> reporter: terrell, good morning. seems like mitt romney may have received that boost he was hoping for after putting the president on the defensive for much of the night. romney lauded his own accomplishments as governor of massachusetts while continuing to highlight the failed promises of the obama administration. the first presidential debate started with a hand shake and a romantic moment. >> 20 years ago i became the luckiest man on earth because michelle obama agreed to married me. >> congratulations. i'm sure this wa

to be with you. i'm terrell brown. mitt romney is changing his tune about those controversial remarks concerning 47% of americans. last may speaking at a florida fundraiser romney said 47% of americans paid no federal income taxes and considered themselves victims and will support president obama. romney originally stood by his remarks and described them as not elegantly stated but in an interview with fox news last night romney had a different explanation. >> clearly in a campaign with hundreds if not thousands of speeches and question and answer sessions, now and then you'll say something that doesn't come out right. in this case i said something that's completely wrong. >> both candidates campaign in battleground states today. romney working to capitalize on a strong debate, the president working to regroup. susan mcginnis covering it all in washington this morning. susan, good morning to you. >> reporter: back on the campaign trail mitt romney is trying to prolong the momentum that he got from that debate, president obama is seemed determined to make up for lost ground. romney's s

. good to be with you. i'm terrell brown. round one tonight. this evening president obama and mitt romney face off in the first of three scheduled debates. the topic tonight in denver domestic affairs including the economy, health care reform and imgrmigration and the clock is ticking. the election is less than five weeks away and the stakes are high. susan mcginnis is in washington. >> reporter: first debates get the most attention of all of them and the first 30 minutes are said to be the most important. president obama needs to hold on to the momentum he's built. mitt romney needs to turn the entire race around with tens of millions of people watching tonight. the stage is built. the cameras are in place. and the candidates are in their final hours of preparation. mitt romney took a break from his rehearsal to grab a burrito bowl at chipotle. president obama visited hoover dam. when we arrive at the university of denver tonight they will face questions about the economy. there will be six segments 15 minutes each and the first three are devoted entirely to the economy. >> i want

with you. i'm terrell brown. this morning in afghanistan the taliban is claiming responsibility for a suicide attack that killed at least 14 people, including three nato service members. a suicide bomber riding a motorcycle rammed into a patrol. americans have a large presence there. nato is trying to sort out a weekend attack in afghanistan that left two americans dead. the casualties push the number of u.s. personnel killed in afghanistan to 2,000. the circumstances of saturday's violence remains unclear but a fire fight broke out at a checkpoint in eastern afghanistan. what nato hasn't determined so far was the gun battle a result of an insider attack or a deadly misunderstanding. drew levinson reports. >> reporter: this weekend marked the deadly milestone in afghanistan. 2,000 american soldiers killed since the war began nearly 11 years ago. it happened at a checkpoint in the eastern part of the country. one american soldier, an american contractor and three afghan soldiers were killed in a fire fight. >> the circumstances were somewhat confused but there was a report of insurge
